I went to look at a model M that seems pretty good,it's not froze up or anything,but there's no mag on the thing,I don't want to buy this little critter just to have to spend $500 on a mag,anyone able to tell me what kind of magneto is supposed to go on a M? Any other tractors use the same kind? Thanks, Brian |

| Depending is the mag base mount or flange mount? if flange mount mag would have been depending on year A fairbanks morse R V 4 B 3 CW ROTATION OR IF REPLACED A FMK43B OR FMO4B3 OR FMZ4B3 OR FMJ4BE ALL cw rotation if earlier base mount original would have been a eiseman or bendix scintilla hth. |

I didn't look at the serial number,but it's got a base mount with 4 holes,look like they were 5/16 bolts (from memory) The mount is still there,I imagine that the old fella that owned it took it off and it's in one of the sheds there,but I don't want to buy it and end up sinking way more than it's worth into it,I'd hate for it to go to scrap either though.... That gives me a start Everett,I appreciate all the information I can get,there are lots of HD9s and HD11s up here,but this is the first M I've seen. |

Are Magnetos pretty much standard? get one that fits and time it and it will work kind of thing? Honestly this will be my first gasoline tractor (other than that little B-10) and I don't know a thing about em',everything else I have is Diesel. |

| Base mounted mags are around just got to look for them Allis,s run with a 30 degree lag on start up so you need to find a mag with a 30 stamped on it, also you will need the little fibre coupler to put between mag and drive on tractor mag is held on with 4 3/8 unc bolts have seen them on ebay from time to time. hth |

Hmmm,this little tractor has nearly ran me out of patience already,and I don't even own it :) I'm going to buy it anyway,will give me something to do,and it comes with a free Oliver combine! I'll post up some pictures when I go to pick it up,if I get it before someone else does. |

Thanks for the kind words Steve,I can't hardly wait to make it go now,sure wish it had a darn mag on it,but it should not be that big of a deal I don't think. I'll probably have to pull the engine and see what's up in the clutch,seems like it's locked in,push the main forward and it flops back,like it's not even attached to anything down there. |

| Lee clutch works opposit to what you are thinking lever forward clutch DISENGAGED lever back to seat CLUTCH ENGAGED do not leave lever, forward in DISENGAGED POSITION WHEN RUNNING ALWAYS PULL LEVER IN TO ENGAGED POSITION (make sure not in gear first) also look through inspection hole on top of bell houseing it is a oval cover held on with two bolts 3/4 wrench needed you should see everything move from there.Clutch lever when pulled back to ENGAGE should snap over and stay back. hth if you need more info post here or pm me |

That's how I was pretty sure it worked Everett,it just lays back though. If you push it forward to the disengaged position it just flops back to the engaged position (to the rear of the tractor) I'm going to go pull the hydro pump off the back tomorrow and bring it home,I have a crane where it's at right now and the pump has to be a couple hundred pounds. I'll pull that cover tomorrow and see what's moving or not moving in there. I've been trained on those style of clutches,my uncle has a D4 that you don't leave in gear disengaged,the lever will start bouncing until it gets enough momentum to move the tractor. (One time will do) And thanks for making sure I knew,this little crawler is a new one on me,everything you know will help :) |

| Lee there should be no resistance and the lever floppy once it snaps out of engagement if you push lever all the way forwards it should engage transmission brake to make shifting gear easierfrom start off. |

Right,most have a little spring in them somewhere though,this one does not snap over,just goes clear back,but I still don't have a mag yet,so I have time to check it all out. Hope you weren't permanently hurt by getting run over,ouch! |

| there is springs lee but they are on pressure plate 6 of them i think clutch operates on two cams wich gives the snap effect is the clutch frozen? to flywheel hence the floppy lever. |
