I understand these heads can adjust up to 2"? So that brings it down to 34". 330's are darn tough to find around me, but there's a 336 close by. This is on a K2.

If your hybrids have the ear up off the ground aways, it would work as you can carry the head raised up a bit. You are bending the stalk inward, which is better than outwards. Certainly not ideal.  As far as the 2 inch thing.....a 4-38 head can be made 36 or 40. If it is truly 36 inches, the sheetmetal bolts should be in the middle set of holes.  It might be a 3-38 head ?? set to 36 meaning that's it.

Thanks for the input. Good point about raising up the header!

I was wrong. You are bending the stalk outwards. Not a good thing.

i have done it with a two row head and its hard. With a three row head, the discrepancy is 18 inches. That won't work. Maybe if you only use two rows but i would keep looking

Dertz19, yes as long as corn is standing good(no root lodged or stalk lodged).
Center drive 336’s middle row spot on & two outside rows are each 6” off centered but snouts should direct stalks into snap rollers. Maybe set cornhead sprocket drive to slower speed & pace combine’s forward travel for best results. Adjacent row(s) maybe get crowded away from outer snout’s rear fenders. Drive so cornheads left side slip-clutch’s metal cover/panel is towards harvested side. It sticks out about 6” from edge of fender.

Thanks for the input, I've got time so I think I'm going to hold out for a 330....

there's a 343 JD head on Big Iron auctions, I suppose it could be adapted to your K2, already set for 3- 30"..might be an option to consider....

Earlier this year I bought a head for my E from Spiker Farms in Illinois, and he had an A330 head there for sale. I checked earlier today and it is still on his website, but he wants a king's ransom ($3000) for it. I don't know how rare those heads are, hopefully you can find a decent one a little closer to home for a better price.

The A330 black cornhead is a much improved design versus its predecessor/older k330 orange cornhead. Prices for each reflect that. An A330s usually bring $xxxx where a K330 bring $xxx.

Red or green, well, jd green at least, wide-row corn heads could be set for 36, 38, or 40" rows. I assume Allis heads would have been the same. I don't know about the adjustability of narrow-row heads.

This is what I have.  Was told it is a 330E with an "A" Adapter..  Make sense?  Dale

Maybe made to fit an E but adapter makes it fit a wider A? I had a flat chain 330 on an A2.

Gleaner corn head 3 row 30”, set up for K2

Today I looked at a 336 corn header adjusted down to 30" rows (didn't know that big of an adjustment could be done? But I measured- it is). Extremely rare to find here in west central MN. The kicker is that the owner is wanting to sell as a unit with an early model K and a grain table. Made him a crazy strong offer on the corn head if he was willing separate and gave him the contact info for local grass seed farm that runs old Gleaners of that size (and of course, only uses pickup headers). So, we'll see. Paying way too much and hauling 50 miles is better (for me) than a deal or even a fair price, and hauling 500+ miles.

Making it 30 inch instead of 34-36-or 38 wouldn't be too terribly hard except for the SHEET METAL. So, how they did that, I have no idea without looking at it.

We did one DECADES ago. Used the sheet metal from a wrecked 630. Some frame weldments had to be moved. Frames units are the same. Had to shorten the half sprocket coupler shafts and leave out the 2" or what ever the short coupler shafts were. We may have used one of the coupler shafts off the ones you change and added a double chain for a wrap.  Forgive any mistakes in memory - this was in the circa 1980.
