Different battery fixed this. Oops! WAY TO GO ON MY FIRST POST. Engine running fine now but all the Hydro stuff doesn't work. Any issues with the hydro that I should know about?

Make sure the belt running the hydro is in good condition and adjusted properly. Owners manual explains the proper set up. Have you checked the oil in the rear? Pipe thread plug on the rear of the tractor. Filter been changed lately? I had an issue one time, it slowed in speed and then stopped. Fluid level was good, installed a new filter and that corrected the problem. If you haven’t changed the fluid and filter I would recommend that first.

Mike that is an excellent point, I forgot to mention the plate on the transmission for the hydro. As Mike pointed it out, there are 2 pins under a spring loaded plate on top of the hydro. When pushed down this allows the tractor to be safely moved in case the engine isn’t running and or the tractor needs repair. By pulling up on the plate it returns the hydro to normal operation. If either of those pins are stuck and not sticking up the hydro will not move the tractor.

I just bought this in this condition basically for the motor.

But the rear pin is stuck in below the big nut so-o-o. If I could fix it I may just put a motor back in it. This is a nice tractor.

I have a snow blower, tiller, and blade, but no mower deck.

So if I can get a movwer deck I'm all set.Does anyone know of one near NÈIowa

I was given a 917 a few years ago, I already have one but you can’t beat free! Anyway, I soaked those 2 pins with Kroil to loosen them up. The tractor had been sitting outside for a few years. Once I got the engine running the hydro worked fine.
