Noticed a humming bird at the feed station I have for them, one bird when flapping its wings does not make any sound  like the rest do.  Is there  two types of species of humming birds?

Are actually Multiple specie of them.  Can appear very similar but slight differences.  We have one that is about 1/4 size larger than any others, Female as no throat color and she IS NOISY like a huge helicopter as comes to feed.  Several nest up in a Lilac we planted as built the house, their own Condominium Project site.  The Ruby throated tend to be possessive and run alternate specie out of the projects.

Hundreds of species. The ruby throated is the first to my feeders every year.

Hummingbirds, like insects, can change their wing shape to make, or subdue sound.

Bees use it to communicate with the colony... cicadas and crickets use it to call mates... hummingbirds do the same.

Hummingbirds recognize and remember humans.  When they travel south for the winter, they know where they're going to winter, and they'll come back to the same house, same farm, same place 10,000miles away, to nest for the summer.  If you sit in a rocking chair, watching over your garden, with a cat in your lap, they will fly up, look at you, and change their wing shape to make a little noise... they're greeting you.  IF you have a feeder, they'll see you stock it, and will remember you... and if you mistakenly swat at it (thinking it's a big scary insect) they'll remember, and stay back.  They'll also recognize your pets.  Pretty darned amazing little fellers.
