Howdy, I am looking to pull my grandfathers 200 AC tomorrow for the 2nd time since his passing. He bought the 200 brand new and we have countless photos and trophies of it around the house from the old pulling days. Anyway I am looking for any suggestions on how to improve its pulling. Or maybe ideas of what I could be doing wrong, as I can no longer ask him all these questions I have. I will be pulling it in the 10,000 pound turbo open class. I am almost certain he pulled it in 2nd gear high? If I remember correctly I get the tractor up to 3/4 throttle, and then full throttle once I am on the move? 10psi in the rear tires? I am hooking up to the stock location of the rear bar, not sure the exact name for that. Seems like it hooks very low to the ground? Would that make much of a difference? It has an upgraded injection pump, and a newer turbo. It’s about time for a new clutch but I will get everything out of this one I can. Any suggestions or recommendations are appreciate. It’s means a lot to me to pull this tractor at all. Thanks

Probably 2nd gear high side. I have no idea what size rubber or engine HP, but 2nd high works for me. 10 psi on the tires sounds low to be, but again I'm not there looking at your tires or the kind of dirt you are pulling on. You ideally want your drawbar as high (20 inches?) as the rules allow and as short (18 inches from the rear axle center) as it can be as per the rules. Drawbar height and length is of HUGE importance !!!! Make sure your foot clutch pedal has 2 inches of free-play in it. Adjust the clevis under the hood on the left side.

Sometimes the biggest variable in pulling is the nut behind the steering wheel...

YOU WANT THE DRAWBAR AS SHORT AS YOU CAN GET IT !!!!!!!

Bolt your clevis tight with the largest bolt that goes thru it and the drawbar. Take up any play with washers in between. We had a hitch made from steel plate that bolted to the top of the drawbar with a hole cut large enough for the sleds hook.

All of those Cat 2 hitch type tractors I would remove the drawbar itself, turn the crosspiece around so it curves forward and like Dan said, bolt a plate on top (or bottom) of the crosspiece and get it shimmed to the max height allowed, which is usually 20 inches. Get those four bolts tight and don't jerk the sled !!

Does it have a gated Power Director lever or the push down to shift it?

Alright folks I had a successful pull last night of 231 feet, very happy it could make another run down the track. I now have some more questions tho. The drawbar being higher and shorter definitely made a huge difference. My issue was the high low gear select. I could not get the tractor to begin pulling the sled for anything, I thought my clutch was just completely toast, A few gentlemen came over to help me. They remembered my grandfather always shimmed the high low level so it would fully engage, we stuck a penny behind the level and I held back on it as hard as I could and bam the tractor trapped and took off down the track. What is the issue here? Linkage is worn? I see that the linkage leads to a valve of some kind on the side of the transmission housing? I would love to fix this and keep pulling, thanks!

This was great advice and I bolted my clevis tight 30 minutes before I pulled, thank you!

You have the gated Power Director -

Worn gate teeth. Worn lever where it rubs the gate. Worn linkage down to the Power Director valve. This system has been a throne since 1974ish. There's even a service bulletin telling to drill a new hole down below the platform to increase valve spool stroke. Sounds like you need to come up with something to increase the stroke like maybe a homemade gate ?? Been there dun that B-4.
