The bale counter was missing the spring when I bought the baler. I just got the spring from AGCO for $1.89 but don't know exactly where to connect it. There is a cotter pin head forward of the counter  that looks like it was intended for the spring to connect to, but if I attach it there, the spring seems over stretched and puts a LOT of pull on the poor little counter. Anyone have a photo of this set-up they would share? I looked through the various Manuals but didn't see anything helpful. Thanks.

Well this photo explains a lot. My bracket is bolted to the side in the center of the U- channel cross member 4-5" back further than yours, and the counter is turned 180 degrees with reset knob towards the inside. Thanks for making the effort to help, appreciate it.

It's always a struggle for me too. I forget how to do it in between the times I do. Is your counter and bracket mounted the same as in this photo?

Here's a picture of my counter.  I made the bracket out of 16 gauge flat stock.  I hope this helps.

Thanks for the photo Dan. Apparently your set-up and bracket work for you, which is what matters. From the photo plummerscarin posted, I was able to relocate my bracket to the correct location and everything now fits properly. Thank you for your efforts.

I found the counter on Dad's Roto baler when I was very young. The baler even had a nice ramp to get to it. Small fingers and sharp eyes made the counter a fun thing to play with. When Dad found out, there was a discussion. The counter was never touched again.

That's funny! Reminds me of Dad's old measuring wheel, and how much I liked working the counter on it. Makes me wonder what my grand and great grand kids will remember.

Jim,
A funny story about your baler.  When Carl Drake bought the 303baler new, he traded in his AC Rotobaler.  My Dad bought that baler from the dealership, Monroe Tractor.  When Carl quit farming, Bill Calvert bought the 303  from him.  You bought the baler from Bill.  My brother still has the AC Rotobaler, and you still have the 303.  Unfortunately, Bill and Carl have both passed on, but the AC equipment keeps on going.
Keep the AC's running.  Good Luck, Bob

Hi Bob,  Thanks for refreshing my memory. As I'm "refreshing" the baler I was trying to remember who I bought it from. I just remember it being in SE Ohio. Did you list it on this forum for sale? Shortly after buying it I used it on some wheat straw. I did my best to get it set up correctly but had issues with consistent bale size. It then sat in the barn for around 8 years until this summer when I had an opportunity to bale a few acres of hay. This time I had a good baler man check it over, make some adjustments and come to the field the day of. After an hour and a half of further adjustments we had it putting out good bales. Now before it goes back in the barn until the next use I'm fixing all the little things so it's ready to roll out and use. I can still see Bill backing the baler up the dirt ramp to his barn, turning it some onto a couple of planks resting on the bed of my truck. He did a fine job, I thought he may have passed by now. So I'm the third owner and the baler came from Monroe Tractor. What town were they in? Thanks for the history.

Jim,
Monroe Tractor Sales, Woodsfield, Ohio
I want to say they lasted 4 or 5 years.  Another guy took over and sold parts only until maybe 1969.  About then unused parts and microfiche, books, etc. was sold to Ross tractor Sales in Cambridge, Ohio.  Dwayne Ross sold new stuff until 1985 or 1986 when Deutz Allis brought out the green stuff.  He continued to sell parts and New Holland for a while after that.
