Remove the grille screen. Remove the power steering breather and check the oil level. If you can see the oil just above the steering gear inside that is full enough. Start the engine and throttle it up about half-way. If the pump is working at all, the oil will be moving around when you look into the hole with a flashlite. No oil movement whatsoever means a failed power steering pump I would say.

Yes, I have it relatively fixed. My boys reminded me I was getting older and was loosing arm strength. They reprimanded me that I should not compare it to John Deere's hydrostatic. steering. It does steer with less effort than the D-12 III which js not equipped with power steering, The D-17 IV Steers the easiest. We continue to farm with all three of them,

There are a couple of places you can oil that may help. #1. Where the steering shaft goes thru a support block underneath the carburetor, oil the shaft and work it back and forth. Up ahead on the same shaft is a splined coupling. Spray some WD40 in that splined coupling socket. I would tell you to oil underneath the steering wheel because that area can be dry too, but very difficult to get at to oil it.
