I want to buy a new Nelson muffler for a AC 170 gas. The Stanley is driving me nuts! Any help appreciated. Thanks, Tracy

While we are at it, what does the original Nelson muffler for a 170 gas look like? Is outlet centered or close to one edge of oval body? What diameter is inlet? What diameter is outlet. Parts manual shows a different number for diesel and gas. Any help appreciated. Tracy

Original 170/175 gas muffler looks very much like a 180/185 muffler except the exhaust pipe is smaller in diameter but about the same height and offset. The 170/175 gas muffler is outlet is offset and identical to a series 4 D-17 except the exhaust pipe is a little bit larger in diameter (rated speed now at 1800 RPM) and taller like a 180/185. I have a 180/185 muffler on my 170 and also had one on my Dad's series 4 back in 1971 or 72. It requires sliding a larger diameter pipe over the existing exhaust manifold pipe and plug welding it to get the muffler to fit correctly. They do sound better with that larger outlet !!

DrAliis, thanks for info. I wondered what diameter the original was to compare with what I found. Thanks, Tracy
