I’m confused. Just when you think you know….

The old Deere style outlets take an o ring different than ISO / Pioneer style.

One has a square cross section, one round.

Which is which???!!

The Deere cone tips, from ‘61-‘84, used a round ring and backup ring. Post ‘84 ISO tips used the square cut quad ring and backup ring.

Thank you!

That’s sort of what I thought…..but, dad swore it was the other way. Plus, we had a pack of each labeled wrong from a dealer. Plus the tractor I worked on before this had some of each. Plus the one I just took out was so messed up I couldn’t hardly tell. Plus, had a helluva time getting the square one in there!

Been told you don’t really need the backing ring, but does it go on the tractor side or hose side?

Hose side, away from the tractor. The backup ring is just there to keep the o-ring or quadring from rolling in the groove. If you don’t ever uncouple the hoses, you can leave the backup ring out.

You can use o-rings in the ISO couplers, that’s all the Pioneers used. The quad rings are supposed to hold a seal longer. Whether they do or not is still up for debate…

Well, I’ve got one of each in #3! Guess that’ll be a good test.

Thanks a million for the info.

I purchased sealing ring kits from amazon in both SAE, Metric, and square cut styles from very small to very large. About $40.00 for all I have and they get used often as I see quite a bit of SAE fittings, and Ag fittings along with some code 61 flange fittings.
