Farmall "H"

1939-1953

This tractor has a Distillate engine; note the little Starting Tank fuel cap immediately above the "F" on the right side.

Note how the wheels, front and rear, are secured to the hubs via cleats or clamps instead of with lug-bolts/nuts.

The distributor on this tractor is vertical; most are horizontal.

Of all the "H" photos in my collection, 80% have the horizontal distributor.

Is this Vertical versus Horizontal distributor a year model thing or what ?

All plain letter series Farmall used rim clamps on the wheels front and rear. Beginning with the "Super" series the front rims bolted on allowing different width settings.
That distributer is a "Delco" replacement for the original magneto, the same unit that could replace a magneto on many other brands as well.
In front of the distributer/mag mount you can also see the place where the control pivot would be for the radiator shutters that would have been factory installed on all kerosene tractors.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

Thanks; I thought maybe it was something indicating a dated change.

So, the factory-original horizontal was a magneto and the vertical ones have points.

A neighbor machinist rebuilds old magnetos and takes them in from all over.
