I'm getting ready to change the water pump on a recently purchased 190XT diesel. I realized that even though I have changed the water pump on my other 190XT, it has had an engine swap and has a different pump so I haven't ever changed one on a 190XT engine. What seals the bypass tube? It looks like a compression ferrule from what I can find, but the parts book isn't clear. If it is a compression ferrule do I need to replace them?

Re-use what you have. Use some penetrating oil and everything. Do NOT cross thread things !

Thank you for that, I thought that would be the accepted procedure but not a job I want to do twice.

I finally had time to get my water pump changed, and ended up with a couple questions. Parts book shows a serial number break at 14450 for the lower hose, but not on any of the parts it attaches to. I had the wrong hose because I assumed 13773 was prior to 14450, so either something has been changed (quite likely with a 58 year old tractor) or the parts book is wrong. The hoses also had a coating of orange paint. Were they that way from the factory or has it been repainted? Just curiousity on my part, but I appreciate anyone that shares some knowledge.

Hoses are always unpainted when they get mounted on the tractor. There are two lower hose styles, yes. You can't get them interchanged incorrectly. The difference is the lower hose neck on the radiator, which changes the hose length and shape.
