Turned out alright. Short two day event to Johnson Shut Ins at Lesterville MO, nice camp areas and allowed a day of jaunts on Motorcycle.    Peaceful, quiet, allowed a little time to take walks to get wife's legs and joints to limber out where she did better. Then out on Bike to Elephant Rocks State Park as the Shut Ins access was shut down due to Flash Flood Risks.     One engine House ruin is all that remains of the Work Site Buildings, Mountains of Culls still litter the grounds.     There were over 300,000 Ton of Red Granite 'Cobbles' sent to St Louis for City Streets, the entire River embankment at the Mississippi river in St Louis is covered in Granite Blocks from these mines to Bank the River Steamers after the Civil War, AB constructed Offices of the rock and typically any Red Granite Head Stone in MO or W Ill came from these quarries. Mines are still active around the area of Pilot Knob MO.

Rain on way Down, but let up for that night and next day with overcast skies. Rained ALL the way home today, Driveway was a Mire, the yard a Swamp, big ruts setting trailer back into its slot, more yard work. Last Stop yesterday, Tallest Point in MO, Taum Sauk Mountain at one of the few remaining Forestry Fire Towers, house above in inaccessible with a grating on walkway hole to stairs, 77 Steps to that last platform below the final Deck. STEEP Stairs with Oak 2x8 treads UNSUPPORTED save at the edges and showing age Rot beginnings.  |
