Picked up an 82' 8030 PD. Have a 83'8070 PS and 85'8070 PD. It has some jumbled up light wiring and I am asking isn't the wiring the same discounting circuit breakers VS fuses on the newest one? Schematics I have are in OP manuals for "8050 & 8070". Someone before me has run new light circuit for all 8 cab lights. They are separated in that 2 inner frts and 6 floods are different wires (TINY...no more that 14ga) but it's all run off the switch (relay not involved) and fed by a 30A add on inline fuse which fails after a while. I'm still digging trying to figure out what exactly they did to/with OEM wires and why. Switch positions work as should but there's no dual beam inner fronts. I have little patience for those who can't,don't or refuse to fix things right.

I'm going to need some help with this. I don't think that the cabs were built in West Allis, but I don't know if they were shipped in as just a bare frame or were completely assembled and ready to be set on the chassis. Regardless of where they were assembled,I can't think of any changes in the cab from early to late production. Maybe some very minor improvements, but I doubt if the wiring for the lights was changed. Yes, the early tractors used a fuse panel and the later ones had circuit breakers. I don't think the light switch ever changed so it was just a matter of how the power supply was delivered.

I've got to get top rt corner opened up to see what's going on. The old harness goes up rt post but I see new wires going up that side and coming out at lights and they hook directly to light switch. Got some chasing to do on OEM harness to see what's where. Nothing behind heat shield looks hurt. No melted connectors at first look.

Cabs were built in LaPorte, Indiana. I've been out of this since 99 and up to that point never worked on any cab wiring problems. I agree the fuse versus no fuses was the only change I remember.

Doc, do you remember if the cabs were sent to West Allis as a bare frame or were they completely assembled units.

I think they were completed, but could be wrong on that. Tbran might be able to answer that question.

Getting closer...found the pink and purple wires cut that go to switch from fuse block. Temp hookup of those have relay working and plugs behind cookie sheet producing current. Currently removing connector ends from plastic plug halfs to give a little more crimp to ensure good connections. Will move from there to top of cab and check results on old harness which has connector ends clipped off. With some luck I can get it back like it was. Talked to PO to see what was wrong with old system. Said only a couple working lights when he got it. Thought the wiring looked a little shady at light connections so cut em off and tied em up and ran new wire. It's not automotive wire. It's stranded and shiney but can't read a Ga size. Can't be over 14 and 6 lights fed off it at least 10ft before it starts splitting off. Second wire feeds two inner fronts. Put new Hobbs floods in all 8 positions. No high-lo beams. I should have left it on the lot.

Have identified all wires and how to pair the blues to get to the next light so with a little luck I can get it all pieced back together and working as designed. He clipped all the connectors off the old harness, heat shrinked ends and tied ends to old harness then added "new" wiring. For that was no need to clip the ends off. Just tie it all up. Larson lights on the way! Keeps raining so buying time to get this up and running. She thought I should have a "planting tractor" to keep me out of dirt and sun. This will replace the 220 open station.
