I had noticed these two tractors for years and finally wrote the guy a letter - turns out he was selling the property and was getting ready to haul them to the scrap yard, so good timing. The wide front is a 1952 and he never had it running. It's locked up but he said it didn't used to be, and the exhaust wasn't covered well. Tires are junk but the rims look to only need minor repairs (broken welds on some of the spinout rails). I'm sure it needs an engine rebuild but it might be worth saving. The narrow front is a 1951 and he had been using it to pull a mower. It has a cracked block with JB Weld on it and the muffler rusted out so it's locked up now. No boot on the gear shifter. It also has what I think is pocket gopher damage from where there was a mound of dirt next to one of the rear tires... Never seen that before. Otherwise the rear tires would be decent. This one will probably get parted out to save some other tractors. I don't need any more WD/WD-45s at this point but I have a problem letting things go get melted down when they still have good parts. Mikez, I heard you were due surgery the other day. Hope all is well & it went to plan? Wjohn, I fully understand & they both look to be the kind of project I'd free up & get running for the fun of it. Good save!

I'd be more inclined to mess with these two if I didn't have a WD engine still going back together in my shop and 4 other tractors with loose engines that might be much less work to get running. Exactly, the only thing they ask for is space to sit. And with a small investment of time (doesn't even take that much effort to throw ATF/Acetone down their throats & tweak on them with a bar now & again) they can only go up in value  Your GF ought to be thankful you're saving basically complete machines and not spending your free time hacking together incomplete rigs to see them run. I know mine would be, IF I ever bought something in that good shape! (I mean, the lower 6" of tins even still exists on those pair)

Nice save, I hate seeing any old iron go to scrap. My girlfriend doesn’t understand it either, but she might come around a little now that she bought her first tractor, a 51 WD. Other than being locked up that 52 looks better than the two that we drug home last week. |

Good move!! Glad to see you grabbed them before the scrapper did! They both look in great shape. I wish the Tractors around here looked that good! Western stuff is always a heck of a lot better than East coast stuff unless it came from the West coast to start off with and didn't get a chance to sit around outside around these parts to long.... We're not so far west that we can leave the muffler uncovered for years and the engine still turns over... those guys have it made as far as pulling equipment out of fence rows. John, Congratulations on the new tractors. I have brought a couple home that needed some love and had a blast getting them running and moving. Ok there was some headaches and rough spots too.
