when the tractor is under load (brushhog) it can barely get out of its own way.
tractor is popping(not backfiring) not a crisp engine sound
almost sounds like its not running all 4 cylinders. stuck valve ?but im not sure how to tell
guys have any suggestions

When you replaced the plug wires did you use "wire core" plug wires. A mag will not run correctlyon carbon core wires.

I'd have to look to be sure, but I think maybe the plug gap for a mag is .025. Did you put new points and condenser in? Don't get cheap ones. Borg Warner or Standard Blue Streak are the brands you want. The stuff at TSC for tune up are not what I would use. When it comes to wires, you need to use solid wire core type. The automotive suppresion type don't work well with a mag. Does it help to pull the choke out a bit? If so, you may have a carb adjustment/clogging problem. Old fuel can loose it's potency and not run well.

gap is to wide for mag . may not have the load jet set correctly also. if i had a picture of a couple of the plugs it would be a help. spark plugs are the window to the combustion chamber.

i did not use " wire core" wires, i will get them. i was a cheapo

plugs have a white/gray color to them when pulled

when i turn in the idle adjusting screw on the carb nothing happens.

at some point it should shut off fuel to the tractor rite?

I did not realize a mag has points and a  condensor. I will get and replace. is it easy to replace?

guys thanks for your time   Brian
