I am in the process of building a three point hitch for my tractor. I finished the bottom arms, now I am trying to figure out how I want to hang the third arm. I see most kits that can be purchased hang the third arm on the lift arm bar. Has anyone ever had a problem with the bar bending? Looking from the spline ends, it looks pretty beefy. Is it that thick all the way through or does it thin? I am just uncertain if I risk bending it by using this style of bracket. My goal in this project is to not weld or drill anything on the tractor so that it can be easily removed. I am also trying to not spend to much cash as scrap steel comes free from work. Thanks for your advice. I will post pictures when I am finished. Brian |

The original snap coupler 3 point hitch conversion that was available from Allis used a U-shaped bracket that wrapped around the solid steel round cross-shaft.
You need not worry about bending that shaft.

| The simplest is to bend a 2" wide piece of 5/16" flat stock into a "U" around the rocker shaft and drill a hole thru the 2 ends to accept the top link pin. Also drill a 1/2" hole thru the U-bracket up close to the shaft for a bolt to keep it from sliding forward. Finish it off by installing exhaust pipe clamps on both sides of the bracket to keep it from sliding sideways. The top link pin is vertical rather than horizontal in this setup but that is no problem as the bracket is free to turn on the rocker shaft. |

Had a 3 point on mine for about 8 yrs now,and the top link is connected to the round cross bar.Never had a problem with a bend....even hung a plow and broke one of the bolts holding the plow foot....but no damage to the three point. ------------- I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder. |

Bob, I like that. I think I will build one like that and use flat stock in the meantime. Thanks to all for your advice. Pictures will be coming shortly. Brian |
