Hope I didn't get burned. Got a call claiming to be Amazon asking if I'd made purchase recently in excess of $1000. I said no. He asked if this was a fraudulent purchase to which I replied yes. The accent was heavy middle eastern which any more seems common these days. Wanted to know if I had multiple accounts notably New Mexico then my hometown. By this time I'm getting uneasy and repeated the purchase was fraudulent. Hung up. Then called back and the message said that number is out of service. Called Amazon and reported it. Calling credit card companies next

Have had a couple of them call over the years and a few in last month .
When was told I had what was suspected as fraud purchases at places they ask if I had made them .
There next thing was they would take care of it just give them my CARD NUMBER
Daa if you are viewing my record you have my card number .
Well we want to confirm we have the right number so share we need to check your card number
Do you want the numbers on back of card also ----
Yes - we need them .
Well I will call you back on the number on the back of the card and give you all the information - Can I get your name and employee Number so i can get ahold of you .
    CLICK  - silence  -

Last time I got one of them calls I just said thanks - I will call in and cancel card and re-report the fraud - and hung up before they coulld .
I got a call from Womens Wear Store in Tennesee that my mail order was canceled as the secuerity code of card caused the transaction to not allow card processing .
They then said they would call the card issuer and I should also , they gave me all the inforoation and the Name and Address of the online customer to also report .
So some calls can be ligitamant - one way is to ask for a call back number but give no information over a phone UNLESS you originate the call to known number .

Our phone shows the phone number of the person calling. If we don't recognize the number we let the answering machine take the call. They usually just hang up. We can hear the machine and it turns out to be a legitimate call we then pick up. We rarely get those calls anymore.

I never answer "yes" to any question they ask, sometimes they try several times to get a yes and then hang up. I don't answer the house phone unless I recognize the number and my cell phone is set to automatically go to voicemail if the number is not in my contacts list.

I've got homephone to goto voice mail after 3 rings. Even then wife HAS TO answer every damn call ,even though call display doesn't show WHO is calling...
oh well.
I'd set machine to ONE ring, but she's faster than the machine....

Caller ID and Spoofed numbers - most times when no name or other messages of who is calling means no answer .
Then when a name and local number I will answer "You Called" - it upsets the auto answer voice recorder on their end .
What ticks me off is when I call myself - least it says I did on caller ID

If you're a little savvey, you can get their business name. Once they reveal their business name you have them by the balls. With a few minutes of research, you can track down the business and get their location and have your attorney send them paperwork to sue. They'll typically panic and pay, because what they are doing is illegal in all 50 states, and a court room case under scrutiny of the Fed Govt is the LAST thing they want.

Good way to make a few grand without having to do a whole.lot of work, and really sticks a thorn in these guys.

We do that here too. Contest with my wife who can keep one tied up the longest. Or get them so mad they start cussing at us.

This time of year is all the companies that want to be your Medicare provider. Many of them have your name and address already. So I make sure to give a wrong age, and the street I live on has been changed to Sucker Creek, and my last name starts with a different first letter.  Some are typing in all the updates, and their brain engages and the line goes dead.LOL

800notes is a FREE REVERSE PHONE NUMBER LOOKUP database built by YOU, its users. Our strength is in our numbers - by sharing pieces of information each of us has we are putting together a free and public phone number directory with information no other service can provide.
  • Find out who is calling and why: Debt collectors, telemarketers, charities, and survey companies often call without leaving a message. Lookup the number to read the previous reports of other users.
  • Report telemarketing calls: Make the Do Not Call list offenders notice the problem by reporting their practices. No business wants bad publicity.
  • Report phone fraud: Did someone try to scam you? Reporting the number is the fastest way to make public aware, and prevent others from falling victim to the scam.
  • Check out a business: Read other users' feedback about the phone number owner.

I got one of those calls too, kind of freaked me out at first. They spoof numbers to look local so you'll answer. Best just to hang up and block it.

I know the best advice is to just hang up, but sometimes i just can help myself! My wife and I had a routine going for a while where we would get some sort of spam call, and I would play along with them, giving bogus info to them, and then, when they finally got around to requesting financial info, CC and such, I would point to my wife and she would start in the background asking who I was talking to, etc, and then she would say it was time for my bath and bed. I would start whinning and screaming with her and this would go back and forth until the fools hung up!
Another scam we would get quite often was selling me extended warranties on my new vehicle. I would ask which one, I have several? they would stammer for a bit, and then point out if they know I have a new car, they must surely have a vin, or make and model. The reply was always, well we just need you to tell us so we can confirm the information. I'd say OK it is a 2024 Motorama V3. Keyboard clicking heard over the phone......usually hang up after a few moments, but one guy said after long period of keyboard click, that's not a real car! I said no, but i sure had fun wasting your time! cursing, swearing, etc and hang up

I eventually decided we weren't using the land line enough to justify the cost and had it removed so i dont get many bogus calls any more
