Seems many farms here are worried of Winter as have Livestock besides Crop acreage, are currently inspecting field potential production levels and cutting or baling considerable as a Silage Crop for Winter as Hay did so poorly here.  ALL are 'Expecting' a BAD Cold and fierce winter based on past outcomes of Dry stoic Summer/harvest seasons.

Thoughts?

Unfortunately you don't have to travel far to find places that got missed by rain. Talking with a friend who only got 1 and1/2 3x3 big squares per acre of 2nd crop. They only had a couple showers in July with a few tenths of rain. Talking with another person who has land 15 miles north and that corn field has only had 2 inches of rain since it was planted. I think bushels of corn will be less then they predict this year. We could use a good soaker here. Had a storm last night and only got 3/10s. Hay on the hills isn't doing much right now.

Be one of those years to harvest off the corn stalks. Makes fairly decent feed for beef cattle, lots of sugar in the stalks. Put out a couple mineral/salt blocks, and is a good way to stretch out the baled hay.

I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

Going to chop extra silage this year. Hay crop first quality was great but yield was really bad, especially grass. Won't stop raining long enough to make second cutting
