I still wonder if people are eating less chicken and pork, or are the closing the SMALL old plants to build a MEGA plant ?
News of the closures comes as meat and poultry companies across the industry face declining profits as the result of inflation, higher input costs, including feed and labor.
Data from WARN said layoffs would begin on Oct. 8. The state received the notice on Aug. 4. As part of the move, Smithfield will also close 35 Missouri hog farms, including 13 in Newtown, 12 in Lucerne and 10 in Princeton. The company and the WARN notice did not identify which specific facilities would be closing.

No siding spur 'Yet', but as I have heard supposed to be all live animals have to cross a Killing floor and pass inspections to get there.

they'll close down those plants and them claim a shortage and prices will sky rocket more. they must have lost some meat exporting and now butcher to much. again I say that all farms big and small need to raise most of their own meat animals and poultry, give the kids something to do other than play video games. the egg sellers around here are making a killing! one lady I know raises meat rabbits, sells eggs, butchers pigs/cattle/sheep/poultry/wild critters for themselves and neighbors....she's a keeper! she also works full time in town!

There is a JBS Pig Plant in Western Illinois that goes thru 24,000 hogs PER DAY.. About 2,500 people work there. Open 16 hours a day i believe... Other 8 hours are cleanup for the next day.. It is possible with a LOT OF PEOPLE on an ASSEMBLY line.
