Got 4ths  here. Took most the day. Nothing made it to a ditch. Very thankful. Can't believe crops look so good with  not much water since planting in April. Pond is a good 3ft low.

My area just north of I-80 @ Iowa markers 40 & 46. 2 almost neighbors always put on facebook what weather does at their places, 1 had 1.5" other 4".
My farm gauge had 1 3/4" and critter water pan about the same. Amazing how much better crops looked in less than 24 hours after rain. For once it didn't come with wind. About daylight It was quite a thunder & lightning show though, I'd spent night there in camper.

Our dry spell finally broke and possibly far too late. Had three and two tenths inches in the gauge from Sunday 7/30 to yesterday, last night received a full inch.
Something odd in corn currently, some form of a large bubble blister growth galls. Is attacking nearly all the midwest crops, some
Suspect Corn Smut due to the severe season we have had.

This is one of the most frustrating seasons of farming weather we in these parts can remember. April was very cold and wet, not much chance to get a start on planting season. The 6-7 weeks beginning May 1st were the driest on record (or at least since the 40’s depending on exactly where you are) and often very hot. Things got so hot so dry so fast there was about a week long window of a sweet spot to get seeds in the ground before it got pavement hard. Even the seeds that got put in then didn’t fare well because they got cooked after emergence. Stuff planted around the end of may didn’t emerge in some cases for a month. I’ve got a 90 acre corn field with the crop height varying 6 feet.

Since we finally got blessed with rain in mid June, it now has no clue how to stop! Most people are still trying to finish first cutting hay. It doesn’t always rain a lot but it does seem to always rain. Seems to rain about every 18 hours, I kid you not!

Enough to make a guy stress more than usual for sure.

Yeah, several guys by me are calling it quits this year over the weather. Not a huge fan of Washington post ( the anti trump coverage is getting ridiculous) but there was a front page article about how new York state farmers can't get any hay made

Our Renter noted our farm Brome field deliver a quarter less than last year, had not begun recovery from cut and bale until last week, baling was over a month ago.
