Recently acquired a d17 series 3 it has 1 hydraulic port on the rear of the tractor my question is do I need a hydraulic valve and lever coming off of that port to run a cylinder or is there a lever already on the tractor that I'm not understanding also I have been seeing the d17 hydraulic pressure might be to high for some cylinders is this true on series 3 as well for reference trying to lift a john deere 1209 haybine thanks

Although not an AC tractor, we had a IH haybine that was equipped with a hyd cylinder that was one hose. Raised and lowered just the same as our NH that had a two hose cylinder, just moved the hyd lever to the ‘float’ position, and all was good. If I recall the D17 of that vintage was a ‘high pressure/low volume’ system. You may need to get a hyd cylinder designed for those systems, but a ‘one-way’ or one hose cylinder should work just fine.

Ok thanks I'm beginning to think I'm missing the hydraulic operation valve and lever to control the cylinder also wondering if that 1209 haybine is right for me seeing how it has a john deere cylinder on the rear to lift instead of a tie rod Style don't understand enough about the high pressure low volume system enough

The lever below the traction booster lever is the hydraulic lever. Located to the left of the steering wheel. That raises the 3 pt arms and the outlet. Once the arms are up it will lift the cylinder that’s plugged in

Raise the lift arms and tie, wire or chain them up so when you want to raise the header on the haybine it will raise immediately. I've used all kinds of cylinders on haybines with a D17 ser.3 and never had a problem with the high pressure/low volume system harming the cylinder. 1 hose is all you need. Just install vent plug in the other port.

Use the smallest cylinder that will lift your load. Smaller the cylinder the faster up and down. MACK
