Hello,

I have a 53? Wd. The model with the curved shifter.

I can't get the lift on my wd to come down, it has a york rake permanently elevated. Tractor was sitting under a tarp all winter. The was water in the hydraulic oil so I drained it and replaced with new. I then unbolted and raised the manifold above the pump, oring flew out, oil everywhere, should have jacked up the load. Removed front adjuster with spring thinking the ball was stuck, ball came out. That must be the pressure relief and not the holding valve ? Put everything back together, started it up, lift went right up and won't come down again.

Whats my next move?

Thanks, Acisbest

Not sure I follow but the shaft in hold valve rotates by linkage from lift lever and pushes a pin which unseats valve( a ball ) and lift arm cyl oil returns to sump. That manifold above the pump is called the hold valve. Look up view in parts book.

At very front of pump, there is a thumb screw that backs out against clutch housing. Screw it in and load should come down. Back it back out. If it does the same thing next time, pump will have to come off and be cleaned up.          MACK

I sure wasted a lot of time. Had an extra pump that I got at an auction or a salvage yard. I can't remember. Took some time to get the old one out, cut a new gasket and put the other one in.

After everything was back in I started the tractor up and the lift raised but would not come down.

So, the shelf pump worked, good to know. Still had my problem. At that point I looked over the pump and turned the lower lever on the side of the pump. The lift dropped.

Decided to find the instruction image for the pump. Found the image on the net of the sticker that goes on the batter box. Followed the middle setting. Noticed that the "c" setting was not locked in as it should be. Locked it in, everything workd now except the lift is creeping up very slowly. I'll have to see if I can fine tune the adjustment.

I just was fighting my 45 one doing that, ended up being dirt and crap in it( I pulled it of a salvaged tractor that had been sitting outside for years) and as so as I pulled the hold valve it cleaned out and works like it should.
Being you had/have water in the hydraulic oil it’s probably what I would call water locked…
Did you pull both drain plugs?

Drain plug from the bottom and the drain plug in the pump were pulled.
