Should I be able to blow air out the hole in the bottom of the housing that has the transmission input shaft seal when hooking air up to the pressure lines? I tried it once with the original steel rings on it and then with another set, both times I had air blowing out that hole. I don't want to put it back together if something needs attention there.

Generally.....a BAD idea. It's not an air tight connection, but they always have some wear inside where the sealing rings go and if it is re-used, it will never run as many hours as a new one. Be sure the oil seal isn't pressed clear into the bottom....only flush at the top.

If there is much ware in housing, it will start breaking ends off sealing rings.                            MACK

I had another one on a shelf with very little wear that I swapped out. I assume they are a smooth bore when new? This one still leaked some air but no where near as bad as the original.

Absolutely a straight thru hole when new.
