I'm switching haybines around this year, and one I'm going to be using on the 180 has  a single-acting lift cylinder. Wondering what you folks do when operating single-acting hydraulics on this series of Allis. The manual indicates to just hook up the single remote and hold the lever when dropping so it doesn't kick out - essentially deadheading the unused remote and blowing by the relief when retracting the cylinder/dropping the head. I've done this occasionally on other tractors, but it of course creates a little unnecessary heat when blowing by the relief, and means the pump is working it's hardest when it 'technically' shouldn't have to work at all.

I'm sure it's probably ok and for occasional use I'd have no problem with it. But some of our fields are pretty small, stony, and odd-shaped. You end up lifting and dropping the head quite a bit when cutting. I suppose I could run a hose from the unused port into the reservoir, but I suspect that's over-thinking things a bit, and might cause more problems than it solved by aerating the fluid when dumping into it.

Any thoughts/advice greatly appreciated.
