The following attachment summarizes my recent few weeks of observing various rust reformer, rust penetrant, and lubricant products performance relative to approaches for freeing a stuck Allis Chalmers CA engine. Presently it is being soaked in ATF/Acetone without apparent success. If that continues, when I'm able to travel in May to work on it, my approach will be guided by the content of the attachment. If that fails, then we will of course begin disassembling the head.

I think the success of SOAKING depends on how STUCK it is.. If its lightly stuck, then some penetrant can looses things up enough to roll the engine over, and get the rings loose in the piston........... If you have pits on the walls, or excess rust showing.. and rings rusted to the liner for years, then NO WAY..

So if it has been setting a year or two, MAYBE.... if it has been outside in the weather with no rain cap on it for 5-10 years , you might as well overhaul.

I'm certain it will need and have planned for an overhaul, but first I'd like to try to free it up. Takes very little effort.

YES... i have done that twice and did break one loose.... burned oil bad after that and did get a rebuild shortly there after .... Other one was beyond hope... Even had to beat OUT the liners and pistons ... froze inside the bore.
