I was looking at the Wiki page for Allis Chalmers, and among the list of manufacturing plants, in listed a plant in St Thomas Ontario Canada, where Allis manufactured "Electric Motor and Diesel Locomotive Control" What diesel locomotives, would have had Allis controls?

Allis made ELECTRIC MOTORs, GENERATORS, and the Control systems..

The photo above takes 11,000 v overhead line power to the loco and runs thru the "control system " to electric motors on the drive wheels......Another version is to use an ON BOARD diesel motor to run a generator, to develop the power to the control system and drive wheels..... same control system, same electric drive motors... just a different INPUT power.

Im not sure ALLIS ever made the "diesel motor" for the loco... just the Controls and Elect motors.

If it's powered by inturnal combustion it's an engine.

If it's powered by electricity it's a motor.

On a locomotive, the engine that provides power for the propulsion, would be called a prime mover.
