Good afternoon all. I have started the restoration on my 1951 “G”. I have started with the mechanical stuff. Gaskets, carb overhaul, etc. As I remove and clean parts and components I am painting them then I will paint it all again when I do the final paint. My question is there any kind of paint guide as to what things get painted other than orange such as the generator, air cleaner parts, distributor steering gear ? I have seen many different paint schemes as I’m sure everyone has. Any tips will be appreciated.

No, there is no guide for colors.  People paint them anyway they want.  When built, they were painted on the assembly line, so pretty much everything got coated in orange.  I always paint my generators, distributors and starters black.  My personal preference.

As Myron said, everyone paints their Tractor the way they want. Personally, I always use a lot of detail when I do one of my Tractors. The pic of Myrons G is detailed nicely. An original painted Tractor got squirted right on the assembly line as Myron mentioned. Hoses and spark plug wires were Orange, Gennie & Starter, Carburetors & Magneto's, and what's funny about it is the inside of of those particular parts usually didn't have any paint on the engine block side. When you removed the Carburetor for the first time, the engine block side was rusty, and the outside was Orange. That's called "Mass Production"!  LOL

That’s pretty much the direction I heading. As I have removed components I have rattle canned the bare spots then reinstalled the parts. Then when I do the final paint everything will get a top coat. But like Dseries4 has done starter, distributor and several of the other parts will get black paint. Thanks for they replies.
