Changed the filters and found the filter bolt rusted inside the housing. I’m guessing some water was in the fuel at some point. The head is also messed up from all the years of wrenching on it. Special hollow bolt with 2 holes in it to allow fuel to flow into the filter. So I proceeded to buy a new one, also a new spring, washer, gasket. NLA !! I was quite surprised since the D17 was such a popular model. No AGCO dealers have one. | Is that a AC made part or like my old AC HD 5 crawler it had Fram CP 1 canisters. One primary fuel, one oil filter. No idea if you could find a new Fram, but used on lots engines from the 40's and 50's. |

Mack I thought about having my machine shop do that but was hoping for NOS first. Not sure of what tension spring to use so I may have to take it with me to a hardware store. Find appropriate length bolt... slip it into appropriate 5C collet from back side, insert collet into lathe's 5C spindle nose, tighten drawtube... Place drill chuck with spot/centering drill in tailstock... Bring centering drill into bolt, with spindle at about 1000rpm, start center hole... Replace centering drill with a standard 1/8" bit, drill in about a half inch... Swap in a 5/16" bit, drill in a half inch... Swap in the 1/8" drill, drill in another half inch... Swap in the 5/16", drill in another half inch... Repeat 'till you're at the depth matching original bolt's cross-holes... Remove bolt from collet, place in mill vice, measure and mark hole position... Place automatic center-punch in drill chuck in mill spindle, move bolt hole position under center punch point, and center the point at highest spot of the bolt radius... lower the spindle 'till the center point makes a mark... repeat a few cycles to get a good punchmark... Replace with spot drill, and drill into the bolt... Follow with the 1/8" and 3/16" drill bits... Clean it up with flap disk! If someone has an old corroded sample they'd be willing to send me, I'll make up a half dozen and put 'em in the hands of anyone who needs them... ------------- Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest. |

Dave, obviously you have this planned out and know what your doing. What kind of turn around time do you have? I know of 2 that need to be made. I'll be out-of-town on company assignment next week, back the week after, and probably have some workshop-time during that... if you want me to make 'ya a few, send me the ratty one, and I'll whip 'em up for whatever the bolts, and return shipment cost me.  I'm certain that it'll take me a little time to get the first one setup and done, the next one will only take a fraction of the time. If I had it all set out right, I'm thinkin' it'd take me under an hour per bolt, perhaps a quarter of an hour.
