I'm going to need to replace the main drive belts running off the engine on my F2. These are behind the variable speed belt. Any tips for getting the belt off without a ton of work?

Run variable to full slow positon. Stop engine and pry spring loaded sheave apart and wedge 2x4 inside.A crowbar works pretty good. Some say to pound wooden wedge in to spread but I find the crowbar easier. Should be able to jump off lower pulley. Remove or greatly loosen idler.  Belt will come between tire and spindle to remove. Not as bad as you'd think.

If main drive belt is just age worn, then as SteveM C/IL says. Hoping that’s it?
There may also be other contributors to main drive belt wear?
If equipped with gas GM292, may check/repair main drive belt tension idler pulley bearing & arm bushings for wear/alignment?
If equipped with diesel AC433I, check/repair both main drive belt tension idler pulley & engine pressure plate for wear. Engine pressure plate bolts onto rear of engine at flywheel. It has springs that relieve the diesel torque shock to main drive belt. Look for excessive wear where springs contact metal plate. Metal plate can become beat-up & severely cracked which quickly adds wear to main drive belt. If plate is worn, and while main drive belt is removed, then unbolt engine’s rear pto shaft/bearing housing, and remove it as one assembly. Then pressure plate can easily be unbolted/replaced on flywheel.

Thanks for the advice guys. Turned into a 10 minute job. Just needed the main drive belt changed. It was probably original. I should have changed it earlier but didn't want to tackle the variable speed. Pretty simple. Belt ripped a rib last night so needed to change today before it gave up on me. Everything else is good. 292 gas.
