Had a key way back out on my new to me F2 on clutch flywheel. Heard a little grinding in there so I tore it apart to find the key way eating the clutch disc rivets off. Going back together now and this doesnt seem right. Noticed it when I took it apart but honestly didnt think alot of it because I didnt know how it was put together yet. Bearings are all pressed on shaft correct and the inner bearing is seated on its snap ring. This outer bearing cant be correct. Its sticking half way out the housing. Is my housing wore? Someone has been here before me the clutch was newer and I'm sure this outer bearing was out at least once because the race is a little dab scarred like a bad bearing spun in it a little bit. I know theres a serial number break. Mines a 42434 machine. Later f2 long back. Gear drive. Any input on what's going on here?

Looks like it’s outer bearing snap ring is missing?? How long has it been running that way?? What all is worn??

Disassemble the input shaft/bearings from it housing & thoroughly inspect it.

Rule of thumb - Using a hydraulic shop press, always install a new input shaft with its new bearings everytime when doing a clutch repair.

If the input shaft bearings do not fit snuggly into its housing, then you’re probably making a used parts run to closest combine savage yard?

AC parts catalog combine K2(sn25201&up), F2(sn39201&up).

Do you own a parts catalog? If not, when you get a chance, locate & purchase it. Above is it’s info for your F2. It’s 383 pages thick. When opened to any section, it displays a schematic & picture of each part that is sequentially numbered on left page & on its adjacent right page, each of those sequential part numbers has a corresponding Allis-Chalmers OEM part number(s).

Here are copies of your Gleaner F2's clutch assembly schematic pictures & OEM part numbers (Parts Catalog pages 314 & 315). I think your Item #2 (snap ring) is missing? Additionally, during disassembly of input shaft/bearings from it's housing, look to see if item #33(retainer bearing) is in place too?? I believe those two items hold input shaft bearings from moving within housing??

Yes. The bearings are new. I pressed them on the shaft myself. They are both firmly seated. Yes retainer is in. The shaft is fine. Outer retainer clip is just not installed yet, in this picture I just slid it together. No the bearings dont seat in the housing as tight as I'd like them to. You'll notice I have bearing mount on them trying to salvage what I've got. The outside bearing is the worst for sure as far as the race fit goes. Yes thanks I have all parts books and everything is fine. That outside bearing retainer clip doesn't have as defined of groove on the shaft as I would think it should. This is why something isn't adding up. Oh and agco wants 700 for shaft. So no way am I just going to replace the shaft for no reason. If anything my housing is the bad part I'm thinking. I see no part number on my shaft to check.

I believe that only snap ring attached to input shaft is at it's flywheel? Inner bearing retainer & outer snap ring holds bearing inside housing. Inner & outer bearing's press fit onto input shaft and hold shaft in place.

Here are few other input shaft sources that I found online. $250-ish if in stock?

I was only able to find 1 other picture online and that bearing sets flush to the outside of housing. Theres no way for me to make it happen. I've either got the wrong shaft, wrong housing, or my housing is wore back somehow. Like i said someone beat me here. Old owner isn't around to ask. This bearing set out that far when I took it apart. Might be on a parts run. Buy the whole dang shooting match.

Should only be one long pipe spacer between the bearings and nothing else..

That's correct. Inner bearing retainer is seated flush to housing which bearing is seated to a step on the shaft. Outer is again seated to another step on shaft. I would have to machine the shaft to get the bearing in further. And we know that isn't right.

You might try calling Cooks Tractor for possible good used clutch input shaft housing. Sometimes they also have a new input shaft in parts?? good luck.

Agreed. Maybe look over your housing for part number, to verify it's correct - 71179841. I don't have a parts book for an F gleaner, but thinking that perhaps previous owner made a swap of an older F housing into your F2??

Anyway, If Cooks don't have a good used housing, maybe try Colfax in Iowa?

I've looked the housing over and dont see any numbers that look like allis agco part numbers
I've got a 3284-H-8
And 9826-72 maybe. Second number is very hard to read. Neither one looks like a number that will help. Yes anything is possible. I know he had aome other F parts there. He passed away and in bought this machine from his widow. He was a neat guy. He went through this thing alot. Everything else he did was lights out. I'm a little surprised to find this.
