combining my tough beans this afternoon finished a round and started another and 20ft into the next round my rotor just stopped kind of a humming sound, the belt shiv drive was all turning I'm thinking according to the book a "cam" might of broke or a spring issue? First thought was gear box failure but after placing my hand on it it wasnt even hot. Any ideas?

Rotor coupler? See if you can turn the rotor without it turning the gear box

when I turn the belt by hand the rotor will twitch or you can see very slight movement of the rotor. I was thinking on the outer drive shive there is a canister with a spring in it. Its kind of loose and moves I would think it should be tight under spring pressure. the cams have 3 anchoring pins that fasten into the assembly just wondering if they broke off ?

Take off a processor door in the engine compartment bay. Shove a long bar or rod thru the cage hole thru the rotor so it cannot turn (much). Now turn your pulleys on the outside. If you can turn the top pulley the rotor coupler is stripped out. Yank the rotor and see how bad it is. If you don't know what the rotor coupler is, you haven't been greasing it, which is required daily.

No, the rotor coupler is not where you describe. What you are referring to is the grease zerk for the torque sensing hub. That being said, I am on board with the rotor drive coupler having not ever been greased. To get to that greas zerk, there is an inspection cover held on with two wing nuts kind of behind the gearbox. You remove that cover, then turn the rotor over until you see a grease zerk on the rotor web. You will be putting a new top shaft (output shaft) in the gearbox, and putting a new coupler on the rotor. Don't feel bad (well do, because it's not cheap) if this is the case, because I've seen it many times. Darrel

does it usally take out both the shaft and the coupler? I didnt know if the shaft was a harder material than the coupler?

I guess that I always replaced the shaft and the coupler. Not sure what the consequences would be of doing just the coupler. I'd think that worn splines on the shaft would cause premature failure of the splines on the new coupler. Darrel

I've only had to do one, and that was 30 or more years ago. Lack of greasing was the cause. I remember hoisting the gearbox out of the machine and replacing the shaft. I'm sure the steel shaft is harder than the cast iron coupler and won't be worn as much, but nevertheless worn.

Replaced coupler only in my 62. Splines were down to a sharp point. Shaft has some wear but nothing like coupler. Thought it worth the gamble. Made it through 500 acres so far.
