Hello everyone.
This is a 1984 4WA power shift 8050
Sense last post “dash lights” we haven’t looked or run tractor. That  day had a rear tire blow and put two new tires on. So this stinks lol.
Anyway today dad got in it drove on road about 8 miles. When got there put in reverse and nothing.
This tractor is new to us. No idea history. And over the winter had all filters and strainer replaced on both transmission and diff, final drive. With agco filters an new oil.
Any ideas

Shift linkage would be good start.

Are you sure it is shifting to reverse?   Watch the side of the trans as someone in the cab shifts the lever.

Still not near enough information. WHAT is it doing in the forward gears ????? Nothing at all ??? or trying to stall the engine ?? Do ANY forward gears move the tractor ?? Where are you checking the transmission oil level ???

Sorry dr. I asked dad. About 3/4 into the trip the lights lite on dash. He down shifted going into field didn’t notice anything at that point, stopped a minute and went to reverse and nothing. It wasn’t pulling engine down. It was in low so he tried forward and didn’t seem to do anything ether, didn’t shift up all the gears though just tried hi and nothing at first but shifted up and started moving. Said sorry for not paying attention of what exact gear. Just moved out of the way. It did not pull down engine just acted like slipping. Next day tried it and all gears and reverse worked. Lights on right off the bat. Checked oil with long dipstick up top. And checked diff, final drive with site glass.

Sounds like maybe low on oil if the 1800 RPM light came on. That long dipstick can be deceiving. You must check it COLD, on the level and BOTH SIDES of the stick. If you drained the transmission oil and cleaned the screen it should have taken 7 to 7 1/2 gallons of oil to refill it.

Ok so we finally went over to field where tractor is. Checked oil level and it was good. But like I said above it’s milky. All gears worked so dad drove back home. Again it’s about 8 mile drive and again 3/4 of the way the lights started to flicker and at intersection lights came on and stayed on. When he got back the reverse worked. So we decided to change that nasty oil. But messed up by putting oil back in before dropping rear power shift filter. Because would have dropped the strainer to. Power shift filter was full of slim and inner lining  blown in. All these filters and oil were changed this spring with maybe 20 hours on it. Where would all this be coming from and what do you think should be done

Id say , just my opinion - flush the  system with diesel fuel or cheap hydraulic fluid a couple times , then start over with new filters etc

Had a 7040 PD do about same thing. It would plug screen and stop. Changed oil and flushed a few times, ended ok. Think it came from his oil that he put in.            MACK
