Replaced oil seal as old one was leaking. Transmission oil level never went down? How do I tell if the pto and pulley wheel are lubricated? |

there are three 1/2 inch pipe plugs on the bottom of the transmission, differential, and pto housing... The oil is all the same... Fill by your left foot on the 1 inch (?) pipe plug.. Should take about 8 quarts if it has a hydraulic pump... a little less without the pump. Normally use Universal Hydraulic/ Transmission fluid or similar. You can look at the fill plug level and that will also be the level at the rear end of the housings... When the tractor is running and the gears are turning, you will get splash lube all over everything inside. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

this is what the pto housing looks like inside... You can measure the TRANS FILL PLUG level and then check the back....... but i would assume the level is slightly BELOW the shaft level... most everything gets lube from SPLASH. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

Thanks steve(ill) - I did not drain the fluid, only lost what leaked out from the old oil seal. When I checked at the fill plug, it was full. Should the new seal stick out about 1/16 inch or should it be flush? |

Depends on which seal you buy... Normally things a FLUSH... but the bore could be 5/16 deep and you could have a seal that is 1/4 , 5/16 / or 3/8 thick..... "NORMALLY" they would supply the 5/16 thich seal... but not always. On the oil level, i have one B that i use a lot on hills and has a hydraulic system.. I was running out of hydraulics when going DOWN HILL and all the oil goes to the front... I ended up putting a 45 degree street ELBOW into the fill hole and then a plug in it.. I can add an extra couple quarts and raise the level 1/2 inch to "FIX" my problem. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

The gasket for PTO housing act's as dam for hyd. oil to stay in back side for pump .Seen these deteriorate over time and cause same problem Steve had . ------------- He who dies with the most toys is, nonetheless ,still dead. If all else fails ,Read all that is PRINTED. |

Bad gasket is a possibility on old tractor. Mine was recently rebuilt... I just had a LONG DOWN HILL grading with blade.. And at the bottom , could not get the blade back off the ground.... It was STEEP. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |
