We are finally putting up a shop at the farm. We have decided on a 35' x 16' Bi-Fold as our main door. We ruled out one piece hydraulic and traditional overhead. The prices from Schweiss, and Diamond doors are close. The local dealership has a newer Schweiss bi-fold and are happy with it, but it is starting to bow a bit. Anyone have experience with one or both? Thanks for any information.

No experence with the type you're asking about, put have installed 8 overhead doors and worked on a couple others. Rollup doors give the most trouble.

dang that's a BIG door ! big enough to pull a plane through !!..

hmm, silly thought, maybe contact airplane hanger door makers ??

I've seen them installed on TV, lightweight aluminum I suppose.

We've got 14ft bi-fold doors on our chicken houses. Manual raise. No hydraulics or anything like that. They've been here 2 years now and we haven't had any problems. I don't recall the name. I'll look in a little bit

They're Eagan Sturdy Seal doors. I don't know how big they make doors but it might be worth looking into

Thanks for the feedback...we are also exploring (2) 20' overhead doors side by side with a removable center post. I have not received the quote back for it yet

Clay, that is very cool! I'm definitely getting a quote for a stack door. The shop is going to be 50 x 100 x 16. Heck with that type of door we could go to a 40 foot opening easy.

We put up a 72 x 136 machine shed a few years ago with a 36 foot end doorway, a 40 foot side doorway both double slide doors and a 20 foot single slide side doorway. When ordering I asked about the pole lengths for height and he said that they cut them off for the desired height, I figured heck Im paying for a standard length of pole why not use it all. Best snap decision I made in a long time, got 18 foot side walls on the shed, doors are 17 foot tall opening and can pull the combine in with hopper extensions on and I can swing out the auger on an R62 between trusses for maintenance and never hit my head working on top of the combine. Also consider where to put the walk in door. I prefer them as close to the corner so you dont waste space behind the door when you open it up and dont have to walk as far from front of shed to the side of the shed where door is located. The negative side of such a tall building is when you have to replace a bulb in the lights, it takes a long ladder or pull the combine under it to work from. When I poured concrete in the work area I put a 18 inch extension outside of the doorways with a 1 and a half inch step up for the door to ride against and to keep some dirt out and I mounded up concrete 12 inches wide in 3 even spaced spots and formed them so the sliding doors don't swing out with the wind if they are only open part way. Works like a track for the door to slide in and you dont have to worry about it filling with dirt, freezing up or moving when driving over it.

Great points! Love the info. I'm trying to talk to as many people and visiting some other shops. I have been working on dirt floors and rocks for 40 years...my son is a welder and helps on the farm we are really looking forward to it.

I've compared the reviews of Schweiss and Diamonds on different platforms. Schweiss has better reviews than Diamonds. Probably their marketing strategy works better. By the way, bi-fold doors break easily during the winter season and cold temperatures.
