When I parked my tractor in my new barn last fall to fix the radiator, add the alternator, prep for the hydraulic pump, and redo the wiring I noticed there was a significant leak somewhere from the rear end. I probably didn't notice it before because it was parked on a dirt floor. I noticed the fluid level would drop some over time, but not like a huge "Oh crap!" leak. Since I have the tractor in the shop to add the new loader and rear tires now seems a good time to try and fix the leak. The only problem is I'm not sure where the leak is coming from. For starters here is where is looks like the oil is coming from on the right side of the tractor: When I stuck my finger in this hole (YUCK!!!!) I pulled out a lot of really oily gunk, as well as a few chunks of what I think are the original brake pads I changed out about 20 years ago. I could also see the right brake rod going to the brake gear through this hole. On the bottom side of the tractor there is something which looks like an adjustment bolt that has a nice big drop of oil on it too.   Since I last filled the transmission the oil level hasn't dropped significantly, but I still have no clue what the parts on the bottom of the trans are or where the leak is likely coming from. And I want to fix this so I don't get into a much more expensive repair down the road. So, anybody got a suggestion on how to fix this while I have things all torn apart? ------------- 1959 AC D17 Gas with some updates |

| Inside that hole is a pin with an Oring on it. The setscrew you see is what keeps it from falling out. This pin is the lower pin for the lift arm internal ram. Draining the rear end oil totally and pulling the pin and rolling on a new Oring is the fix. I think you have to disassemble the right brake to get access to that pin. And then I wonder about reinstalling the pin when the cylinder has had the pin pulled out. Usually, I had the lift arm housing removed to repack the cylinder and install a new hose and put a new Oring on the pin then. |

OUCH! Almost sounds like I should make a drip pan to put under the tractor and just keep an eye on the fluid levels.... ------------- 1959 AC D17 Gas with some updates |
