I have a NOS camshaft for a WD/WD45, but can't find a source for new or rebuilt lifters at a reasonable price. ( $58 each).  I have several sets of used lifters in good condition.  Would it be safe to use a set of the used lifters on the new cam?  I have overhauled several W series engines, but have always kept the cam and lifters together, and made sure the lifters went back on the same lobes each time I installed the cam, but this is a new situation and I need expert advice.  Thanks.

Hi Ted , A good up todate valve gringer will do this for for you , or find a good machine shop near by .

I had a similar question a while back with my WD. After asking the question, I ended up getting the cam reground anyways and then I resurfaced the lifters with an attachment on my valve grinder. Just like you, I found that new lifters are not a cheap date.

There is some question about how deep these were hardened from the factory. Nobody has a solid answer, but they seem to be hardened deep enough to take at least some material off and still be left with a hardened surface. I actually have yet to finish putting my engine back together.

Here's the old thread if you want to look through it:
