I was trying to determine if my engine is original to bother checking if it can be rebuilt.

What is odd is the engine serial # is so high.

Tractor is 1954 ib 3228
Engine # CE 193051

Per the chart, this engine would be after 1958?

Your using the B serial numbers with the CE engine numbers.. Im not sure the "curve" is correct when you get to the lasts couple years...

There were 130,000 model B tractors built .... and 68,000 model C tractors built... and maybe 3500 IB built... with some stationary engines and carnival engines, etc... your  over 200,000 motors..... and things were tapering off after 1955.... fewer tractors built every year.......

..... the is the MODEL B tractor... note from 1954 to 1957 your only talking about 3000 tractors..( and motors)

I think it is easy to assume a 193000 motor number could be in a 1955 tractor.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Thanks Steve.

Sounds like this engine block is not original for a 1954 ib.

My ib seemed very original and cared for until put outside for a decade by the former owner.

well....... only 3-4000 motors used the last 4 years.

that being said... My IB is a 1952... SN25xx , and the motor is 136xxx.

maybe the curve takes the C models into account and you cant add those 68,000 tractors... My  1952 with  136xxx motor seems to be a 1950 according to  the curve..

You ever notice there were 30,000 motors built in 1950, then 10,000 in 1951, then 10,000 in 1952 ???............ during that time they only built about 20,000 tractors ?

This is moot.

Found a horizontal crack behind and a bit forward of the carb. :(

And a vertical crack between cylinders 1 and 2. :(

Yep: That is the place most common where they crack. I have some good blocks available.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

I have 10 bare engine blocks for sale. No cracks on the top deck or any where else that I can see.
