You'll need a tachometer specially made for a magneto unless you have a mechanical tach. One for a distributer will not work.  I have a 6 cyl magneto tach, so I know they are out there.  Westach will make just about any gauge you desire, for a price.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

Steve we put one of those cheep tacs you showed a picture of on the saw mill arbor shaft at our tractor clubs saw mill and it works great.   The saw on the mill is hammered to run at 600 RPM's .  We mounted the readout so spectators can't see it .  We have used it for two years with no problems.

I have small engine tachometer/hour meters on my Honda inverter generators that we use for the RV. They have a battery for power and mount over the spark plug wire to get an impulse. I think one of these would work with a tactor magneto, but I have no idea how you would hook up the mag you already have.

The one we used on the saw mill has a small magnet that we super glued to the arbor shaft and the pickup head is mounted so as the shaft rotates the magnet passes within 1/4 inch of it.   All this I think would fit inside the bell housing with magnet mounted to back side of pressure plate, or better yet on crankshaft pulley up front.
