Hello, This is my first time posting here. I'm hoping someone can help me with a question about the transmission in a 1951 IB. I bought this tractor in the summer of 2020 and did quite a bit of work to it to get it running and driving again. It had sat in a dirt floor metal shed for about 10 years after being parked due to a dead magneto. Well, it runs and drives fine but the transmission howls some thing awful. Just letting the clutch out in neutral starts the noise and it just gets worse if you put it in gear and drive away. I'm positive it is not a clutch release bearing problem. It is without a doubt coming from the transmission. I'm thinking that the time spent sitting in the shed the bearings went dry from lack of lubricant and condensation got the best of them. So, on to my question. Is the IB transmission the same as a B transmission? If I open this up and it is a worn out mess inside along with bad bearings, could I just find a decent B transmission go through it and just swap it in? I hope to repair my transmission. Just checking into options if t's just worn out. I'll add some pics of it here soon. Thank you, Mike |

Yes, the IB is the same as the B and the C ... If it dont jump out of gear and not much slop in the shift lever..... then you probably only need new bearings which are standard and can be bought at any bearing house/ NAPA/ etc.
the TOP SHAFT is straight thru to the PTO shaft out back.. It sets way above the oil level, so your idea that the bearings got rusty is a good possibility... What oil is in the transmission ? Gear lube or Hydraulic oil ? hydraulic oil flows a lot better and slings a lot better to the UPPER bearings. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

Hi Steve, thanks for your answer! It had, and I then put back in. Gear lube. I later discovered after I got a manual that hydraulic oil is recommended. After the trans is fixed, that is what it will be getting.

Same , I have 3 transmissions if needed. Good luck. If it does it in neutral that eliminates a few bearings. ------------- CA, WD, C, 3 Bs, 2 Gs, WC, I-400, 914 |

The "G" uses the same transmission, plus some added parts, if it has the special low. ------------- 917 H, '48 G, '65 D-10 series III "Allis Express" |

I have had several B tractors.. ONE had a failed bearing on the top shaft... It also was run with gear lube prior to my purchase.. Appeared to not be properly SPLASH LUBED in my opinion.. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

The special low part for the G is an added external part. So with that part removed, the transmission can be used in/on the B & C. ------------- 917 H, '48 G, '65 D-10 series III "Allis Express" |
