Decided to check the brakes on my 160, a little touchy when I activated them. Left side grabbed before the right. Uneven adjustment was my assumption. This was a easy project compared to other AC tractors we have. Removed the foot running board. Removed the adjustment nuts, the cover, and removed the entire brake unit from the housing. Cleaned the ramps, the balls, the disks, and reassembled. Plenty of wear left on the disk. This little tractor has a good setup for brakes. 2 sets of disk making 4 points of contact. And they are strong brakes. Very impressed with a 140 bales of hay on a wagon and how easy it is to control. This new to me 160 keeps impressing me with how well it’s designed and built. So far I’m really impressed. The inner housing and outside plate can both be easily replaced in case they need to be. At 7500 hours they seam to have wear left, although parts may be hard to come by. Haven’t checked on availability, but the 160 parts seam to get harder and harder to come by.

With short steep ramps, I can see why braking is quick and firm. Regardless, I have become used to how they operate. Quite different from our 100 and D series. I like them and their simplicity. This entire project took less than 2.5 hours. Installing new disk would take even less time.

They are very different if you are used to the "D's". I call them toe brakes as it only takes a little toe pressure to use them.
Good job brother
