Hello, I have a 1949 WD that I took the magneto off while changing the push rod inspection cover gasket. While reinstalling the magneto I turned it over a couple times not knowing this would throw off my timing. Since then I have found the top dead center mark on my fly wheel and matched it with the arrow. Then taken my magneto cap off to see it set to 1. Once Ive done this I lined up the firing order (1243, 3 being next to radiator) and matching the mags numbers to the engine blocks. I tried this muiliple times and still no success. What am I doing wrong? Tractor ran amazing before I did this. Any advice extremely appreciated.

Number 1 is by radiator 2 3 4 to back then set your firing order

You need to start with # 1 piston (# 1 is the closest cylinder to the radiator as Tom IA posted) at TDC on the compression stroke, not just line up the timing mark.  The timing mark on the flywheel lines up on TDC every revolution, but compression TDC is only every other revolution of the flywheel.  Pull # 1 plug.  Put your finger over the plug hole and turn the engine over until you feel compression building and stop.  Continue to turn the engine over manually, in the proper direction, until the timing mark lines up.  That should bring the engine to TDC compression, ready for mag or distributor installation.

I don't know if you had the cap off the mag, but there are gears inside that also need to be in correct time to work. Here is a link that explains it very well.
