New York (CNN Business)In a blow to the climate movement, US power companies are ramping up their coal consumption due to surging natural gas prices.
US coal-fired generation is expected to surge by 22% in 2021, the US Energy Information Administration said Monday. That would  https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=49996&src=email" rel="nofollow - mark the first annual increase  in coal-fired electric power generation since 2014, the EIA said.
Coal was long the main fuel source for the US power grid — even though its environmental footprint is the largest.
In recent years, utilities ditched coal because of concerns about the climate crisis and due to the abundance of very cheap natural gas. US coal consumption fell in 2019 for the sixth straight year, dropping to the  https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/15/business/coal-trump-peabody-energy-bankruptcy/index.html" rel="nofollow - lowest level since 1964 , as natural gas prices fell to record lows.
Yet https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/20/business/iea-carbon-emissions-report/index.html" rel="nofollow -  this trend has reversed  in recent months because  https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/28/business/natural-gas-inflation/index.html" rel="nofollow - natural gas prices have spiked , making coal more competitive.
The EIA report said coal power generation is rising this year because of "significantly higher natural gas prices and relatively stable coal prices." The delivered cost of natural gas to US power plants has averaged $4.93 per million British thermal units this year, more than double 2020's price, the EIA said.
This comes after US power plants have retired nearly one-third of their generating capacity at coal plants since 2010.

The coal station retirement forecasts have been notably incorrect by EIA EPA and DOE, too conservative.
The first forecast several years ago was 15% ended up 21% of older small delivery capacity hard coal boilers financially too costly to uprate to CNG, now the larger older and within the last ten years less maintained noting they would be retired are going away.

The use of coal will not rise as the remaining dirt burners cannot increase consumption at max boiler load just will be at load and power longer. Also is a great PITA to convert back to dirt once converted to CNG where the retired in place mills and ducting would have to be rebuilt, takes months and $Millions.

And get out the propane heaters/torches to melt the snow and ice off the solar collectors so when Texas has an ice storm and shuts down the power grid.
Also the portable diesel generators that are needed to take to charge up the electric cars that can't make it back home as their batteries run down.

Here's how bright these green people are:

As many people know, the Conference of the Parties (COP) Climate Change Conference, hosted by the UK in partnership with Italy, is taking place in Glasgow from October 31 to November 12.

One blogger from Brighton wrote this week that attendees from the conference will be staying at Gleneagles Hotel.

He wrote that there’s 20 Teslas at the hotel to shuttle people back and forth to and from the convention, which is about 75km.

Then, the kicker. Since the hotel only has one Tesla charging station, diesel generators were contracted to help recharge the Teslas overnight.

The stated purpose of the conference is, among other things, “to review the implementation of the Convention, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement.”

The climate change conferences now count themselves, according to the UNFCCC’s website, as “among the largest international meetings in the world.”

A simple search shows that the hotel has two EV charging stations. And there are not 20 Tesla’s.

Tramway does have a point! I've noticed a propensity of the conservative media, et el, to exaggerate quite often. We, the conservatives of the country need to strive to be as accurate as possible. Elsewise, those of the deafdumbandblind faction will have something to nitpik at hoping for the illusion of some sort of victorious rebuttal!

Tramway, one...two, it doesn't really change how lubricous the idea that the need to bring in diesel powered generators to recharge their electric cars, so the global elitists can look above it all!

Tram also forgot ONE Charger is Reserved for all other Patrons with a EV to recharge their EV, so is really only One Charger for the other Tesla's.  Math STILL does Not Work.

Even if they had enough charging stations, whats generating the electricity for them?
