| I have a gas clothes dryer that stopped working and although it is 30 years old it has had very little use and want to fix it if possible. It starts and within 5 seconds or so the burner ignites but after about 15 seconds the burner totally goes out. I consider myself pretty handy so does anyone have a idea on what the problem might be? I dont want to junk it if it is a simple fix. Thanks in advance!!! Ryan |

First, when was the last you cleaned the lint filter? Second, when was the last time the warm air exhaust pipe/tube was cleaned? ------------- I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science. |

Good thing to clean as Lars mentioned.. no air flow will cause overheat - then shut down if all the air flow / discharge ducts are clean-------- The way most gas appliances work is you have a pilot or electronic ignition... The gas valve OPENS and the flame starts up.... It has about 10 seconds to warm a thermocouple to keep the valve open.. If the thermocouple does not send back a signal, the valve shuts the gas off......... see what type thermocouple you have, if it is clean and in the flame.. probably just replace it.

Your going to take it apart anyway so first step is to see how much lint is in the internal ductwork and clean that first. I was shocked at how much was in mine and it also is a straight shot out. Next would be the thermocouple and then a faulty over temp sensor. Oh and check to see if it will dry on air only.
