There's a farmstead that runs several "3 tower" pivots (35-40 years old) that are driven on steel wheels with lugs by water only Smile

. Can these pivots be "reversed" like the electric motor driven cousins ?? Thanks

The ones I’ve dealt with were not reversible. Can be a pain at times.

Thanks Thad, it's pretty neat to watch the "drive arm" actuate the steel wheels

We started out with Valley water drives. They’re fine if everything is good but a pain when anything goes wrong.
If one gets stuck reverse is a nice option.
You have a lot more control over electric but they have lots of parts and tires to keep up with.
Lightning was our biggest problem on the farm with the electrics.
I also remember watching the mechanical linkage on the water drives.
I was fairly young when dad went all electric drive.

OH MY,, the old Valley water drives.... I guess they were ok when new, take IRRC at least 60 lbs water pressure, if the safety system fails,, man what a wreck,, they are really a pain when worn out,, glad i didn't hafta work on any of them,, jus mostly heard the neighbors horror stories...
