I am converting my D17 Series IV from snap coupler to 3 point hitch. I bought a 3 point hitch used from a 170 or 180 tractor and it appears complete. My question is whether I should go ahead and hook up the tractor booster linkage or just bypass it. I am not going to plow with it or pull anything extremely heavy. I opted to go with a used donor 3 point vs. the cheap aftermarket ones that are available. I paid $375 and it appears got a much better product. Thing must weigh over 500 lbs. I have a second question regarding what type of tool I need to remove the clips that secure the lift arms on their large diameter shafts. Any other recommendation that can be offered for this conversion is welcome.

You made a good choice. No need for TB linkage if not using for tillage. If you are referring to the slotted head bolts, there is a socket that fit them. MACK

I did the very same thing several years ago. As the clips, NAPA has a tool that removes them. It is commonly used to rebuild transmissions. I took a picture on my cell phone of the clips, walked in the store and 10 minutes later I walked out with the tool. I took an aftermarket 3 point off my series 4 and went to the factory unit. It is 100 times better than the aftermarket stuff. I wish I had done it 25 years earlier. I had to buy a short 1" drive air gun to remove the bolts underneath the tractor. I got 1 from Harbor Freight. You will love the 3point.
