I was putting mine with an impact and had not read the shop manual or any posts here before I did it.  I ended up cracking it.  Lessons are expensive at times.  Should I get a used one or bite the bullet and go new?

Why not go all the way and get a Fluid Damper? You'll be amazed at the difference even though you didn't see a problem before.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

I'm not familiar with them.  Where would I get one.  I'm waiting for the dealer to get back to me now.

I googled fluid dampner a few years ago and found a dealer for one. Around $400. probably higher by now.

A viscous type damper (fluid) requires a different hub to go on the crankshaft first. Two parts, not one.  Same as a 7080-7580 8070/4W220   N-5-6/R-5-6.

It was less than $500 for sure. I took the name off a fluid one and googled it and the company sent me to one of there dealers. Not an Ag dealer.
AGCO was $1500 for one

The one on my 8070 is made by Stahl Inc. Memphis Tn. No such place on google today. Vibratech says they have one for a 4-71 Detroit that fits an Allis but didn't know which one.

I put a harmonic balancer off a 8070 on a 7060 crank and after 300 hrs it broke the crank , had crank and block through shop first before over haul. Then had a guy tell me shouldn’t miss match cranks with different pulleys?

Would like to know if your crank was reground before breaking. Too many stories of grinders not following recommended procedure causing later failures.

I did have the crank ground to 10-10 before overhauled. I got an 8070 crank this time n ground to 10-10 also different shop though , I hope my harmonic balancer is ok I’m told no real way to check them.

If the shop grinding the crank doesn't chamfer/radius the journals right they will break. Not just Allis, Deere's will too

“ If the shop grinding the crank doesn't chamfer/radius the journals right they will break. Not just Allis, Deere's will too.”

And so will just about every other make.

Shop manual says the radius is to be shot peened and tells size of peen balls etc...it is very specific as to what they require. Doub't most grinders can or will do as book says.
