According to the heavy truck parts men I deal with as well service department personnel I am in contact with, parts problems are expanding to a seriously never seen before level.

Almost anything electronic or electrical and many ‘elastomeric’ or flexible materials as rubber are unavailable or getting there rapidly. A bad sign that even as should achieve employee numbers may see shortages from the trucking industry due to lack of machines available to move products that may not be available.

CAT where I had been trying to acquire a few sensors referred me to a Aftermarket company that in return referred me back to CAT as they both had ZERO on hand and expect that for Months ahead.

ONE SINGULAR Automotive Chip maker is in Taiwan(Being pressured for take over by China), a Few outsource electrical companies in SE Asia, primarily S Korea, Vietnam and Malaysia where they are in Covid 19 shutdowns STILL.

well.... this is what you get when you SINGLE SOURCE anything......relying on ONE manufacturer for ONE part is,well, silly and now you're seeing why it's 'bad'.
I was made well aware of that 4 decades ago when my telecom bill went from $1500 to almost $10K. Monopolies are bad....

I agree and I am hoping the outcome off this will be sourcing them from companies in the USA. Someone somewhere has to be figuring out a way to move manufacturing back to here.

This is a scary thought.  Supply chain are like a freight train.  They take a long time to stop all the cars and a long time to get all the cars moving again.

We're already getting massive COVID inflation, this could double the impact.  Car prices are already  inflated, we don't need everything else to follow.

Someone was working on that, but he sent mean tweets.

Sourcing semiconductors from the USA?  Nice idea, but we are millions of miles away from doing that.  Has to be ULTRA cheap (cheap labor, cheap compliance with regulation, keep the dang Chinese noses out of your business.......)  And have you tried to hire someone to do work?  I don't see a chance.

A guy at work needs a new windshield for his 19 or 20 Ram pickup.   Dealers say it will likely be 6 months before they can get one and Safelite glass said maybe 4 months if he's lucky.
A friend runs a body shop and currently has 5-6 vehicles they can't finish as they are waiting on parts and keep being told they have no idea when they can get them.

Here's another shortage.  One of my renters does street/parking lot striping, found out from his paint supplier, Sherwin Williams, is out of paint because of the freeze in Texas damaged some of the plant and base materials used in the paint.  Won't have more paint until Oct, when it's getting too cold to paint.  Fortunately, he had stocked up several months ago ans should make it ok but a friend in the business in MN is out of paint and can't get it till fall, too late for MN.
