I've been thinking about getting a rider to use to pull the lawn vac.  I have noticed that various brands had left hand discharge decks.  The vac is setup to use a right hand side, but would probably work with either.

What I'm curious about is why the different sides?  Did some engines rotate opposite of others?  I know Case was left side, and when they went to Ingersol they became right side.  That was because they moved the drive from the front of the engine to the rear.  Now a days it seems like the right side is the standard and no one offers a left side?

But why the different sides?

My case 446.  I believe some Simplicity.  My AC 5020 is left hand as well.

That's why I was curious.  It just seemed like a rarity!

I think it was just a choice made by the manufacturer.  I don't think it's a function of the engine or the tractor.

On my old AC B-110 it's a left hand discharge. I could also use right hand discharge deck by simply giving a half twist to the drive belt in the opposite direction.

I've got an A.C. 917 and a Simplicity that looks just like it, that are both left discharge, same deck. Also an older Simplicity with left discharge.
My Z.T. 61" Simplicity is right hand.

The Case 446, that the 'hydrolic' tractor ??
I can't think of any 'modern' rider that's NOT a right side discharge and never seen a 'lefty' in the 3 decades of fixin neighbours rides....
BTW all 4 stroke gas engine seem to spin the same way, 2 strokes can go either though.

My question is: What's with this obsession people have with vacuuming their yards? Confused Most of the nutrients that grass need are in the clippings, yet people throw fertilizer on yards like there's no tomorrow and most of it runs down into creeks and waterways.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

I only use it for vaccing leaves.  I never put fertilizer on my yard.  I don't want to have to cut any more often than I already do!!

When mow clippings remain where drop, when do leaves do them with a Mower and grind them up, stay where drop.  NO Fertilizing the yard, the hay fields Yes, Yard NO.
