Got my D17 gas fired up and running after a recent paint job and what would be the proper way to get the power steering pump primed? I have the appropriate amount of fluid in it but it's not priming itself. Thanks in advance! Ryan

If the pump has lost its prime, I guess I'd try to remove the top oil line, squirt as much oil into the pump hole as possible (be patient..take a couple of minutes) and quickly reconnect the line and fire the engine. Do it a couple of times if needed. A squirt can is what I'm thinking to get oil inside the pump and on the gears.

Would loosening the pump outlet line a bit and putting air pressure (say 2 psi) via the sump fill line do the trick? Just one psi should lift the oil at least a couple feet which is about the differential height between the pump and sump. Engine running

Moved the steering wheel back and forth until my arms tired. Attempted to fill the back of the pump with oil. Still nothing. I will attempt to fill all other hoses and see what happens. Ryan

Maybe the shaft seal in the pump went bad and it is sucking air?

You didn't put a paper towel in suction line to keep it clean did you? I did, many years ago . MACK
