Folks, I had the oportunity to look at a set of Allis 3 bottom 16 inch slat bottom plows yesterday. My good friend Ted has these and were were going to team them up with the D17 for our plow day Saturday in Sagertown PA. When Ted got these lifted up he found they need some repairs. One slat is missing and the one next to it is broken, plus the carrying wheel had been removed. So we looked them over good and determined this would be a project for another day. We have been talking Allis tractors for about 64 years. Ted and his plows:

Chris, that is a near clone of the one I drug home last fall. His already has trip-bottoms on it, mine may get a set someday. I might have some parts. Getting them to you would be the challenge. Coming to Hutch?

Mikez, I have not researched the part numbers. But it would be the two center slats, I believe that would need replaced. Regards, Chris

Pulled a 3 bottom set of slatted plows behind a WD45 a lot of miles years ago.

This question may have an obvious answer but does one use a slat bottom so it will pull easier in sticky / heavy soil? Never saw one used around central Ohio.

Slat bottoms are for scouring (sticking) problems in certain kinds of soil. By reducing the surface area the draft load on what's left (the slats)is increased so sticking problems are reduced or eliminated. Where I live if you own an AC plow with solid moldboards you simply can not plow. JD,Ford,IH it's no problem. I think it has do with the curvature of the moldboard. Back in the late 70's bought a new 2000 monoframe 4x16 with 387 bottoms and would not go 50' without 1 or more bottoms completely caked with soil (and stuck hard). After changing it to 394 slat bottoms it was the best plow you could ask for. The dealer I bought the plow from (Whitehouse-Humphrey) in Danville,Ky. told me when I bought the plow that if it didn't plow right that he would make it plow and they did. They paid for everything and I never forgot it. Bought a lot more equipment from them over the years.

We have a lot of rocks in this area, I don't think that a slat plow would last very long here.
